Bundesliga round-up: Super-sub Alcacer nets stunning Borussia Dortmund treble
New Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac is already a man under pressure after the reigning Bundesliga champions slipped to a shock 3-0 defeat at home to Gladbach on Saturday. Bayern are winless in three league games and languish in sixth, four points adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund.
RB Leizpig are Dortmund’s closest challengers after running riot against newly-promoted Nuernberg this weekend. Leipzig had struggled for goals prior to their 6-0 win, netting 37.5% of their goals this season on Sunday evening. Marcel Sabitzer opened his account for the campaign, scoring twice.
Sabitzer had four shots in total, made two interceptions and created two goalscoring chances to finish the weekend as the highest WhoScored rated player in the Bundesliga (9.49).
Dortmund are three points clear at the top of the table and were involved in the match of the weekend, finishing on the right side of a seven-goal thriller with Augsburg.
Paco Alcacer came off the bench in the second half and netted a stunning 31-minute hat-trick, including a 96th-minute winner. The Barcelona loanee has scored six league goals this season despite only managing 81 minutes of playing time for his new club.
From Alcacer’s 22 touches against Augsburg, the 25-year-old scored three goals from six shots and completed one dribble. He garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.96 to finish as the second highest rated Bundesliga player in gameweek seven.
Rounding off the top three rated players is RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner (8.57). The Germany international, like Sabitzer, netted twice in their rooting of Nuernberg but spurned the chance to grab his hat-trick, missing from the penalty spot in the 62nd-minute. Werner hit the target with three of his four efforts and was also fouled twice.
While Werner and Sabitzer enjoyed Sunday’s clash between Leipzig and Nuernberg, the same cannot be said for Nuernberg goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow. The 23-year-old only made two saves and made two errors directly leading to goal. He finished with a WhoScored rating of 3.91, the lowest in the Bundesliga.
