WhoScored Tipster: Who to buy in Yahoo! Fantasy Football this weekend
Attentions return to domestic football this weekend following the resumption of European football in midweek and it’s time to hone in your fantasy football teams in order to get maximum value over the weekend. WhoScored.com has partnered with Yahoo! for their Fantasy Football to provide users with tips for each gameweek, beginning this weekend.
Before running through our team for the gameweek 33, UK users can get a £50 bonus on Yahoo! when you deposit at least £5 using the WhoScored bonus code WS50.
Goalkeeper – LEE GRANT
Marco Silva might be unbeaten in domestic home games in over three years but he hasn’t managed to transfer that into points on the road for Hull this season. They’ve lost 13 of their last 14 away league games and failed to score in nine of those fixtures.
Lee Grant might not be the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, but he will save you money for added firepower in other positions this weekend. Only two goalkeepers have a better save success in England’s top flight this season than the Stoke goalkeeper (73.6%) and he could prove a real bargain buy this weekend.
Defender – MAMADOU SAKHO
The impact Mamadou Sakho has had on the Crystal Palace side since his introduction cannot be understated. The Eagles have won five of the six games Sakho has played in since joining from Liverpool on loan in January, keeping four clean sheets in that time.
Leicester have enjoyed their own resurgence of late but attentions are firmly on the return leg of their Champions League quarter final tie with Atletico Madrid next week and wholesale changes are expected to the side this weekend. Another Palace win is on the cards as they bid to go nine points clear of the drop
Defender – PHIL JAGIELKA
It doesn’t look like Jagielka has a long-term future at Everton anymore but injuries now mean he is required by Ronald Koeman. The 34-year-old has excelled since returning to the team, featuring in the top-20 most in-form defenders over the last three games.
He has scored in consecutive matches ahead of the weekend and should be confident of raking up more points when they welcome a Burnley side that have only picked up four points away from home all season. Only 10.7% of Yahoo! Fantasy Football users picked him last weekend, he could prove an inspired buy this weekend.
Defender – MARCOS ALONSO
Chelsea were mocked for signing a player that was simply remembered for playing for Sunderland and Bolton, but Marcos Alonso has been a fine addition to Chelsea’s Premier League title challenge. Equipped at doing defensive and offensive work, Alonso has the potential to be a very lucrative option for fantasy football users.
Only Gareth McAuley (6) has scored more goals of all defenders in the Premier League than Alonso (5) this season, highlighting the threat he possesses in attack. With Manchester United set to sacrifice this match in favour of their Europa League commitments, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Alonso add to the goal he scored away to Bournemouth last weekend.
Midfielder – DELE ALLI
There’s a case to be made for being different in fantasy football. Picking hidden gems that your rivals won’t have, but sometimes you just have to lump on the players that are in the best form and Alli certainly fits that category.
The 22-year-old is the clear favourite to land the PFA Young Player of the Year award this season and for good reason. Alli has scored a staggering 16 league goals from midfield this season, the same amount as Sergio Aguero, who is considered the league’s best striker. You simply cannot avoid picking Alli.
Midfielder – SON HEUNG-MIN
Alli isn’t the only player at the peak of their powers for Tottenham at the moment. Son Heung-Min joins his teammate in the top-20 most in-form midfielders at the moment, having scored four goals in his last three appearances.
Tottenham welcome a Bournemouth side that haven’t won away from home in 2017 and with the chance to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to four points, albeit perhaps only for 24 hours.
Midfielder – N’GOLO KANTE
It’s not all about goals and assists for Yahoo’s Fantasy Football. Players are also rewarded for passes, tackles and interceptions, which suits Kante down to the ground this season.
He ranks second for tackles and interceptions combined in the Premier League this season (170), while also averaging the second most passes per league game for Chelsea (61.3) at the best completion rate of regulars (88.7%). He was also the standout player when Chelsea knocked United out of the FA Cup in March, scoring the decisive goal in that meeting. A cheap option, Kante could prove a real steal.
Midfielder – KEVIN MIRALLAS
Perhaps not one of the most endearing players in the Premier League, but Kevin Mirallas has certainly made himself an important player of late. A couple of assists in recent outings is enough to rank Mirallas in the top-20 most in-form midfielders and there should be the chance to improve that ranking against Burnley this weekend.
Mirallas was on set-piece duty against Leicester last weekend and did so with aplomb. The fact Everton have scored 11 goals from deadball situations this season should further the chances of him getting more points here.
Utility – WILFRIED ZAHA
People have been quick to pass judgement on Wilfried Zaha but right now he should only be receiving plaudits. He is showing all the talent Sir Alex Ferguson once saw and more with a big summer move now on the cards.
The task for Zaha is now to perform at his best every week, home and away. He certainly did that at home to Arsenal last week, providing two assists in their shock 3-0 win over the Gunners. With an unfamiliar Leicester side expected at Selhurst Park this weekend, he has the chance to continue to show why England missed a trick on his services.
Striker – ROMELU LUKAKU
The race for the Premier League golden boot looked a close race at one stage, but Romelu Lukaku has simply run away with it. The Everton star is now four goals clear of his nearest rival (23 goals) and has 12 in his last nine league games.
He has also scored in seven consecutive home games and will not have a better chance to continue that staggering streak when the Toffees welcome the league’s worst team away from home, Burnley. You need to back Lukaku this weekend.
Striker – M’BAYE NIANG
Watford’s home meeting with Swansea is perhaps one of the most underwhelming fixtures across the weekend’s action, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t points to be made at Vicarage Road.
M’Baye Niang, who is a top 20 in-form forward, has perhaps been one of very few plus points for the Hornets this season. They will have the chance to strengthen their place in the top 10 when they face a Swansea side that have lost four of their last five league matches and slipped back into the bottom three.
Joshua King is also an option worth exploring given his sublime goalscoring form in 2017. Having scored against Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, the fact Bournemouth play Tottenham shouldn’t discourage you.
