It’s not every year that we get to talk about World Cup odds, and it’s even less often that we get to talk about the USA’s World Cup odds. But, we’re just a few days away from seeing Team USA on a world stage, and according to sportsbooks they have quite a good chance of advancing to the knockout round.
Team USA missed the 2018 World Cup after failing to qualify, but this time around they’ve fielded a team with plenty of youth that have played in major competitions and leagues throughout the world, and it doesn't hurt that they’ve been placed in a relatively easy group, either.
USA’s World Cup odds to win the entire thing are obviously quite long - only 15 nations currently have longer odds than the United States - but it’s setting up for the US to have a great chance to advance as one of the final 16 teams with a place in the knockout round.

As you can see when looking at the above World Cup odds for Team USA and the rest of Group B, the group is being pegged as England’s to lose at this point, and for good reason.
After all, England are fresh off an appearance at the Euros final, despite losing to Italy.
At -240 (2/5), England’s implied probability to win the group sits at 70.6%. However, at -1200, the implied chance that they advance from Group B and qualify for the knockout stage is 92.3%.
Where it gets interesting in Group B is the battle for second. According to sportsbooks and the latest World Cup odds, it’s a battle between the United States and Wales for a place in the knockout stage.
The latest USA World Cup odds sit at +550 (11/2) to win the group and -105 (20/21) to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup. At +550 (11/2), their implied probability of winning the group is just 15.4%. But, at -105 (20/21) they have a 51.2% implied chance of qualifying.
As for Wales, their World Cup odds are very similar to USA’s. Their odds to qualify sit at+120 (6/5), but their odds to win the group are currently +650 (13/2). At +650 (13/2), their implied probability is 13.3%.
Group B is rounded out by Iran, who isn’t a very strong team but is still given decent odds to qualify for the knockout stage. At +400 (4/1), sportsbooks have given them a 20% chance of moving on.
