Newly-crowned champions Liverpool have four players in Premier League team of the week

The wait for Liverpool is finally over. It lasted 30 years but Liverpool are champions of England once again, to add to their Champions League triumph 12 months ago. Jurgen Klopp's side were confirmed winners without even playing, as Manchester City lost 2-1 at Chelsea on Thursday night to ensure the title belonged to Liverpool.

In truth the title was never in doubt, with Liverpool so far ahead of City, more it was a matter of when rather than if. Liverpool romped to a big 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in their game in midweek and boast four players in our second Premier League team of the week post-lockdown.

Goalkeeper

Six goalkeepers ended up keeping clean sheets in gameweek 31 but Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel arguably did the most to earn his. The 33-year-old saved a Neal Maupay penalty to claim the WhoScored Man of the Match award in Leicester's 0-0 draw with Brighton on Tuesday.

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the first of four Liverpool players in the best rated XI, with the 21-year-old helping himself to his third goal of the season with a superb free-kick against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Everton's Michael Keane and Burnley's James Tarkowski make up the centre-back pairing, with the former scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Norwich, while the latter played a key role defensively in a 1-0 win at home to Watford. Tarkowski won 11 aerial duels and made five clearances to ensure a clean sheet for Burnley.

Manchester United dealt Sheffield United with what Chris Wilder described as their toughest match of the season, as the Red Devils secured a comfortable 3-0 win on Tuesday. There were a number of good performers for United, including left-back Luke Shaw. The 24-year-old completed three dribbles and registered one key pass, while also making five clearances.

Midfielders

Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane take up the right wing and left wing spot, respectively, in the XI. Salah notched his 17th league goal of the season in the 4-0 win over Palace and also assisted Mane for Liverpool's final goal. In addition to scoring, Mane also completed three dribbles and registered five key passes.

The aforementioned duo are joined in the XI by this week's player of the round: Fabinho. The Brazilian placed an inch-perfect through ball to assist Salah before scoring a thunderbolt to cap a fine individual display. Fabinho also finished the match with a 97.9% pass success rate, misplacing just two of 94 attempted passes.

Breaking up Liverpool's midfield dominace is United's Paul Pogba. The Frenchman turned in a thoroughly impressive display on just his first league start since September. Pogba brought out his dancing shoes against the Blades, completing five dribbles, while also registering four key passes.

Strikers

Jay Rodriguez takes one place up front after netting Burnley's winner against Watford. The 30-year-old now has six league goals for the season and also won four aerial duels against a physical Watford side.

Rounding off the XI is United's Anthony Martial. The French striker scored his first senior hat-trick and remarkably also United's first since Robin van Persie seven years ago. Martial demonstrated killer instinct and great composure for his three goals and brought up his treble from four attempts.
