Golden Boy Haaland lands Euro player of the week award after four-goal haul

 

Erling Haaland was named the 2020 Golden Boy in the build up to Borussia Dortmund's 5-2 win at Hertha Berlin and celebrated in style as he rattled in four goals over the weekend to break the double-figure barrier. Meanwhile across Europe, stars from Ligue 1 and Serie A impressed as club football made a welcome return following the final international break of the year. 

 

Goalkeeper - Anthony Lopes (Lyon) - 8.67 

 

Lyon returned to domestic duties with a hard fought 1-0 win at Angers. Given the hosts' dominance, it wasn't a shock to see Anthony Lopes shine in a smash and grab victory. Tinotenda Kadewere's late strike may have earned victory, but Lopes' performance between the sticks saw him land the WhoScored man of the match award. Indeed, the Portuguese shotstopper saved all seven shots on target he faced to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.67.

Like Lyon at Angers, Lens also had to fight tooth and nail to claim all three points following the international break. The Ligue 1 newboys secured a 1-0 win at Dijon on Sunday with youngster Loic Bade impressive at the heart of the defence. The 20-year-old made nine interceptions in the victory - no player has made more in a Ligue 1 match this season - while six clearances and three tackles marked a fine showing from Bade.

Midfielder - Rodrigo De Paul (Udinese) - 9.21 

 

The top performing midfielder across Europe's top five leagues came from Serie A with Rodrigo De Paul shining to help Udinese to just their second league win of the campaign. The Argentine bagged a first half winner over Genoa, that his second goal of 2020/21. De Paul's goal came from five shots and he was unlucky not to register an assist in the 1-0 victory having made two key passes. Additional returns of five successful dribbles and five tackles saw the Udinese star yield a WhoScored rating of 9.21.

Four forwards earned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in Europe's top five leagues over the weekend, with Erling Haaland's determined to be the best. The Norwegian hitman netted four of Borussia Dortmund's five goals in their 5-2 win at Hertha Berlin to reach the 10-goal mark in the Bundesliga. The prolific youngster hit the back of the net with four of his six goals, while three successful dribbles saw Haaland cap his Golden Boy award win in fine fashion.
