Sunday's Champions League final marked the last game of the delayed 2019/20 campaign as Bayern Munich secured Champions League glory at PSG's expense in Lisbon. Here, we run through the team of the tournament, ultimately dominated by the six-time European champions after Sunday's success...
Goalkeeper: Keylor Navas (PSG) - 7.04 rating
The first of three representatives for losing finalists' PSG, Keylor Navas was instrumental as the last line of defence for the French giants. Indeed, the Costa Rican kept five clean sheets in his nine outings in the Champions League this season, while a save success rate of 76.9% ranked highly as Navas edged out the likes of Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen as the best goalkeeper in the competition in 2019/20.
Right-back: Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) - 7.44 rating
Joshua Kimmich is the first of five players to feature in the Champions League team of the season from winners Bayern Munich. The German star registered more assists (4) than any other defender in the competition this term and made more key passes (28) than any other player to make the best XI at right-back with a WhoScored rating of 7.44.
Centre-back: Marquinhos (PSG) - 7.28 rating
The second PSG player to make the grade in the team of the season, Marquinhos was an important player for the French side at both centre-back and in central midfield. The Brazilian bagged twice in the competition this season, including a vital goal in the 2-1 win over Atalanta, while returns of two tackles and 1.6 interceptions per 90 sees Marquinhos make the best XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.28.
Centre-back: Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig) - 7.26 rating
Featuring alongside Marquinhos at the heart of the defence, Dayot Upamecano was solid for RB Leipzig before their exit at the hands of PSG last week. Returning a WhoScored rating of 7.26, Upamecano reinforced a WhoScored strength of 'tackling' efficently as he made 3.6 tackles per 90 across his eight Champions League appearances this term to take his place in the best XI.
Left-back: Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) - 7.80 rating
Was there a more deserving candidate for left-back than Alphonso Davies? The Canadian has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season for Bayern Munich and capped the campaign with a Champions League winners' medal. Having chipped in with three assists, and completed more dribbles (26) than any other defender, Davies occupies the left-back spot in the team of the tournament with a WhoScored rating of 7.80.
Right midfield: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - 8.37 rating
The sole Barcelona respresentative in a disappointing campaign for the Blaugrana, one consistent was, well, Lionel Messi's consistency. With a WhoScored rating of 8.37, Messi is the right midfielder in the Champions League best XI. The 33-year-old scored three and provided three assists for Barcelona, and completed more dribbles (57) than any other player to feature.
Central midfield: Neymar (PSG) - 8.17 rating
Rounding off the PSG contingent is Brazilian ace Neymar. The 28-year-old ranked second to Lionel Messi for successful dribbles (43), with 15 of those coming in PSG's 2-1 win over Atalanta. Fouled an average of 4.8 times per 90, Neymar was the dangerman as far as opponents were concerned and for good reason, too, as he scored three and provided four assists in seven outings. In all, the PSG star did enough to garner a WhoScored rating of 8.17.
Central midfield: Thiago (Bayern Munich) - 7.76 rating
Bayern's metronomic central midfielder Thiago joins Neymar in the middle of the park as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.76. The Spaniard may be set for a summer exit from Munich, but he leaves on the back of a man of the match showing in Sunday's final and finished the Champions League campaign with a fine dribble success rate of 81.3% to contribute towards his inclusion.
Left midfield: Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich) - 7.75 rating
The penultimate Bayern representative rounds off the midfield with Serge Gnabry enjoying a fine Champions League campaign. Gnabry's most memorable showing came in Bayern's 7-2 win over Tottenham in London, where the German scored four and provided one assist for the Bavarian powerhouse. Finishing with nine goals to his name in total, the 25-year-old makes the cut with a WhoScored rating of 7.75.
Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 9.03 rating
To round off the Bayern representatives, we saved the best until last. Robert Lewandowski scored 15 goals and provided five assists on the way to their Champions League success with the Polish star superb for the German outfit. Indeed, Lewandowski landed the Golden Boot having scored at least five more goals than any other player, while a WhoScored rating of 9.03 was enough to earn the player of the tournament gong.
Striker: Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) - 7.79 rating
Joining Lewandowski on the frontline is Manchester City's only player in the best XI. While Gabriel Jesus was unable to fire Pep Guardiola's side to continental glory, it wasn't for want of trying as the Brazilian scored six and provided three assists for the Premier League outfit. All in all, the 23-year-old partners Lewandowski in attack having garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.79.
