Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Gladbach represented in WhoScored's 'Oktoberbest'
Defending champions Bayern Munich have two players make the Bundesliga team of the month, as do title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund and Gladbach, but it's a Mainz 05 star who pips everyone to the player of the month award...
Goalkeeper: Robin Zentner (Mainz 05) - 7.79 rating
Going against the grain and starting with the best first, Robin Zentner, with a WhoScored rating of 7.79, is the WhoScored Bundesliga player of the month. The Mainz 05 shotstopper made more saves (16), one of which was from the spot, and won the joint-most WhoScored man of the match awards (2) in Germany's top tier to land the individual accolade.
Right-back: William (Wolfsburg) - 7.45 rating
The sole Wolfsburg representative in this XI is Brazilian full-back William, who chipped in with 11 tackles and interceptions combined. He pushed forward well when handed the opportunity to do so, completing six dribbles, to return a WhoScored rating of 7.45.
Centre-back: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.42 rating
The first of two Borussia Dortmund players in the Bundesliga team of the month, Mats Hummels maximised a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'aerial duels' in October as he won 15 headed battles across October. He played a key role in a defence that conceded just two goals in the month to return a WhoScored rating of 7.42
Centre-back: Benjamin Hubner (Hoffenheim) - 7.45 rating
Partnering Hummels at the herat of the defence is compatriot Benjamin Hubner. He was pivotal as Hoffenheim won all three league matches in October, with a decisive strike in a 3-2 win over Hertha Berlin to round off the month allowing them to move on from a disappointing September. 16 clearances helped push the 30-year-old's WhoScored rating to a commendable 7.45.
Left-back: Robert Skov (Hoffenheim) - 7.16 rating
Rounding off the defence is the second Hoffenheim player to make this team. Robert Skov arrived at the club with a big reputation from Denmark, and while a right winger by trade, the 23-year-old featured on the left in October. He was one of only eight Bundesliga players to register more than one assist last month to gain a WhoScored rating of 7.16.
Right midfield: Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund) - 7.74 rating
Pushed into a more advanced midfield role, Achraf Hakimi didn't disappoint. The Moroccan earned WhoScored man of the match awards in meetings with Freiburg and Gladbach, completing 12 dribbles in all as he tormented opposition defences in October to garner a WhoScored rating of 7.74.
Central midfield: Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich) - 7.62 rating
The first of two Bayern Munich players in the side, Thiago Alcantara enjoyed another fine month as his WhoScored rating (7.62) suggests. The Spaniard won possession in the midfield third more times (34) than any other player and was effective on the ball as he made more accurate passes (260) and completed more dribbles (13) to make this XI.
Central midfield: Denis Zakaria (Gladbach) - 7.67 rating
Only a handful of players made more tackles and interceptions combined than Denis Zakaria (14) in the Bundesliga in October as he partners Thiago in midfield. The Swiss midfielder scored his first and second goals of the season in October as he garnered a fine WhoScored rating of 7.67.
Left midfield: Marcus Thuram (Gladbach) - 7.71 rating
It's another Gladbach ace who rounds off the midfield. The highlight of Marcus Thuram's October came in the entertaining 4-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt to end the month with the summer arrival scoring one and assisting another to land the WhoScored man of the match gong. All in all, Thuram had a direct hand in three goals in October as he maintained his flying start to life in Germany as he earned a WhoScored rating of 7.71 to star on the left.
Striker: Simon Terodde (FC Koeln) - 7.27 rating
Experienced forward Simon Terodde has struggled to transfer his excellent 2. Bundesliga goalscoring form to the top tier, but showed signs that he is adjusting to the quality of the league with two of his three league goals coming in October. The 31-year-old's 14 shots was the second highest as he makes this XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.27.
Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 7.62
Finishing the side is Bayern Munich's record breaking striker Robert Lewandowski, who netted three times in October, more than any other Bundesliga player. The Pole was also first for total shots (16) while his two clear-cut goalscoring chances created was third in the league as Lewandowski yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.62.
