Player Ratings - Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United: Pepe arrives as Arteta earns first win

Mikel Arteta recorded his first victory in management in what is always a huge fixture as Arsenal were worthy 2-0 winners against Manchester United. We explain our player ratings in full from the Emirates.

ARSENAL - 7.10

Bernd Leno - 7.47 - Very little to do but made three comfortable saves look just that on route to a valuable clean sheet.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles - 7.57 - Some sloppy passes in the first half but grew into the game, producing three tackles and four interceptions to keep Marcus Rashford extremely quiet.

Sokratis - 8.03 - Hammered home Arsenal's second from close range and helped keep United's in form forwards out of the game for large periods, producing three tackles.

David Luiz - 7.17 - A more composed defensive display from the Brazilian, who led by example from the back.

Sead Kolasinac - 6.51 - Booked early on in a bright first half display back from injury, playing a pivotal role in the opener, but understandably tired before being replaced on 69 minutes.

Lucas Torreira - 7.08 - Positionally superb and played through the pain to stay on and make two tackles, two interceptions and four clearances.

Granit Xhaka - 7.42 - The much maligned midfielder's best performance and match rating in the league this season, producing three tackles and completing 93 per cent of his passes.

Nicolas Pepe - 8.72 - The star man in the first half, opening the scoring early on and causing Luke Shaw all sorts of problems, while hitting the woodwork with a great effort. Four dribbles, four key passes, 100 per cent pass accuracy. Man of the match.

Player Ratings - Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United: Pepe arrives as Arteta earns first win

Mesut Ozil - 6.69 - Far from his best but looking more interested that's for sure, even making a tackle and interception...

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 6.90 - Worked very hard, even filling in at left-back at times, but carried relatively little threat in front of goal as a result, attempting just one shot (off target).

Alexandre Lacazette - 7.35 - Lively, with impressive movement as ever, but a little wasteful when it mattered. Nevertheless, had three shots and completed two dribbles.

Subs: Reiss Nelson (6.02), Bukayo Saka (6.36), Mateo Guendouzi (6.05)

MANCHESTER UNITED - 6.33

David De Gea - 5.84 - Tends to be abject or excellent against Arsenal and certainly wasn't the latter. Lucky not to see a weak clearance punished.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 6.35 - One of his worst displays in a United shirt, without a great deal to do defensively and looking short of quality in attack.

Victor Lindelof - 6.28 - Didn't do a lot wrong but, for that matter, didn't do a great deal at all.

Harry Maguire - 6.74 - Somewhat atoned for a very poor first half performance but caught out of position on numerous occasions and rash in the challenge at times.

Luke Shaw - 6.46 - Given the runaround by Pepe in the first half. Got to grips with the game in the second, making four tackles, but by then it was too late.

Fred - 7.37 - Some good moments from a player improving in a United shirt, completing five dribbles and three tackles, but took one of the worst free-kicks you will ever see late on.

Nemanja Matic - 7.07 - Carried the ball extremely well, completing seven dribbles, but a lack of match fitness could perhaps be attributed to the team getting overrun in the first half defensively.

Daniel James - 5.81 - No shots, no key passes, no dribbles, no tackles, no contribution.

Jesse Lingard - 5.74 - After a 2019 to forget, Lingard started 2020 on the exact same footing and was substituted before the hour mark.

Marcus Rashford - 5.82 - After a bright start, testing Leno in the first minute, it's difficult to remember Rashford's contribution for the following 89 minutes. A rare off day right now.

Anthony Martial - 6.65 - Did very little in the first half but looked United's only real threat in the second without having a single shot. Completed four dribbles and created two chances.

Subs: Andreas Pereira (6.08), Mason Greenwood (6.10), Juan Mata (6.24)
