Sheffield United in talks for club-record deal for new forward

Sheffield United are exploring the possibility of a club-record deal for Brentford forward Neal Maupay, claims The Daily Mail.

Maupay has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer after his eye-catching performances last season.

Aston Villa and Burnley have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old and it was even suggested Sevilla were keen on the Championship forward.

However, it has now emerged newly promoted Sheffield United are in talks with Brentford over the Frenchman.

Chris Wilder wants to bolster the clubs offensive options ahead of their first season back in the Premier League since 2007.

The Blades’ current transfer record has stood for 12 years and sits at around £6m following James Beattie’s move from Everton.

Wilder’s side have already signed four players this summer and are prepared to smash their transfer record to land Maupay.

Brentford are ready holding out for in excess of £15m for their star man, with Sheffield United in advanced talks over a potential move.

Only Norwich striker Teemu Pukki (38) played a direct hand in more goals than Maupay (33) in the Championship last season.
