England international set for March return

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could make his competitive return by the middle of March, says Arsene Wenger.

Wilshere, 24, was only meant to be out for three months when he fractured his left fibula in August but has only just started running again.

The England international, who has been plagued by a series of long-term injuries during his short career, is a serious doubt to make the European Championships and it would require him to remain injury free until the end of the season to force his way into Roy Hodgson’s plans.

“Jack is starting to run,” the Arsenal boss is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “Once you move outside, from the first day you can count six weeks to be competitive and build up stamina."

Since the start of the 2010/11 campaign, Arsenal have fared marginally better in the Premier League without Wilshere in the starting XI (59% win ratio) than with him (51.9%).
