Grealish and De Bruyne pull strings in latest Premier League team of the week

Manchester City dominate the Premier League team of the week after their 5-0 thumping of Burnley, the fourth successive time they have beaten the Clarets by the same scoreline at the Etihad Stadium. In all there are four Manchester City players in the Premier League team of the week, while stars from Manchester United, Aston Villa and Leeds also make the cut.

Illan Meslier (Leeds) - 8.41

Leeds secured a crucial three points at Everton over the weekend as Raphinha's late goal proved decisive at Goodison Park. However, it was the performance of Illan Meslier between the sticks that stood out for Marcelo Bielsa's side. The young Frenchman made eight saves in total to win the WhoScored man of the match award with a rating of 8.41.

Bobby Reid (Fulham) - 7.36

Fulham dented Leicester's hopes of a European finish with a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium on Monday evening. Bobby Reid was deployed at right-back for the Whites and impressed as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.36. The 27-year-old made five tackles and three interceptions to nail down a spot in this XI.

John Stones (Manchester City) - 7.93

The first of four Manchester City representatives in the team of the week following their 5-0 win over Burnley, John Stones made just his second league start of the season against the Clarets and, as his WhoScored rating of 7.93 suggests, he excelled. Stones returned a 96.9% pass success rate from his 97 passes and defended the City goal well as he made three clearances, two interceptions and one tackle in the resounding victory.

Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham) - 7.78

Partnering Stones at the heart of the defence, Angelo Ogbonna put West Ham ahead after just two minutes in their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Monday night. The Italian hit the back of the net with his only effort on goal and dominated aerially, too, winning five of his seven contested aerial duels, while an additional nine clearances saw Ogbonna yield a WhoScored rating of 7.78.

Benjamin Mendy (Manchester City) - 8.12

Rounding off the backline is the second Manchester City player. Benjamin Mendy made just his fourth Premier League start of 2020/21 against Burnley, scroring his first ever Premier League goal in the 5-0 thrashing of the Clarets. Mendy netted with his only shot in the victory and he burst forward from left-back well, completing two dribbles, to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.12.

Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) - 10.0

The WhoScored Premier League player of the week, Riyad Mahrez earned a perfect 10 in Manchester City's 5-0 win over Burnley. The Algerian enjoys playing the Clarets having now scored eight goals in nine meetings with Sean Dyche's side as he bagged a hat-trick from five shots. Mahrez was unfortunate not to land an assist in the success as he made six key passes to contribute towards his individual award.

Grealish and De Bruyne pull strings in latest Premier League team of the week

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 9.00

Finishing off the Manchester City contingent, Kevin De Bruyne registered his fourth and fifth Premier League assists of the campaign against the Clarets. The 29-year-old's brace of assists came from three key passes, while additional returns of two successful dribbles and three shots saw De Bruyne come away from the 5-0 win with a WhoScored rating of 9.00.

James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) - 8.35

James Ward-Prowse is without doubt one of the Premier League's top dead ball specialists with Jan Bednarek's opener coming from a Ward-Prowse corner before the England international scored his third free-kick of the season. The Southampton star may have ended Sunday's meeting with Manchester United on the losing side, but he makes the team of the week regardless as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.35.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 9.22

Like Ward-Prowse, Jack Grealish may have been unable to inspire his side to all three points, but the Aston Villa captain shone at West Ham. Grealish netted his fifth Premier League goal of the season midway through the first half at the London Stadium, that coming from one of three shots. The Villans sensation was unlucky not to add an assist to his goal having provided five key passes, while eight successful dribbles saw Grealish land a WhoScored rating of 9.22.

Joelinton (Newcastle) - 9.42

Joelinton has endured a tough time with Newcastle following his arrival from Hoffenheim 18 months ago, but the Brazilian put in a performance of the highest quality at Crystal Palace on Friday night. Joelinton provided the assist for Callum Wilson to put the Magpies ahead with two minutes of normal time left to play before getting on the scoresheet himself in injury time. The Magpies man worked hard out of possession, too, as he made four tackles and two interceptions to secure a WhoScored rating of 9.42.

Edinson Cavani (Manchester United) - 9.04

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made an inspired change at the break in Manchester United's eventual 3-2 win over Southampton. Edinson Cavani entered the fray at half time with United 2-0 down at Saints, but he played a key role in turning the game in his side's favour, first providing the assist for Bruno Fernandes' opener from his only key pass before going on to score his second and third goals in English football, with his brace coming from four shots. In all, Cavani did enough to earn a WhoScored rating of 9.04, that the best from sub since the start of the 2016/17 season.
