Top 10: Lewandowski and Kane battle for European Player of the Month

 

October rolls into November and with it, WhoScored take a look at the top performing players across Europe's top five leagues over the last month. Stars from Bundesliga pair Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich feature, so too does Tottenham's dynamic attacking duo. 

 

Here, we round up the top 10 best rated players from October of those to have made three or more appearances, starting in reverse order... 

 

10. Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund) - 8.21 rating 

 

Mats Hummels finished October with aplomb, netting both goals in Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 win at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. In total, the German scored three times last month, and dominated well in the air as he won 19 aerial duels to kick off this leaderboard with a WhoScored rating of 8.21. 

 

9. Memphis Depay (Lyon) - 8.22 rating

 

The first of three Ligue 1 representatives to feature in the top 10, Memphis Depay's finest hour in October came in Lyon's 3-2 win at Strasbourg as the Dutchman provided three assists in the victory. Depay also netted in their 4-1 win over Monaco, with his three assists coming from 11 key passes and one goal from nine shots to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.22. 

 

8. Pablo Sarabia (PSG) - 8.22 rating

 

The first of two PSG players in the top 10, only Thomas Muller (15) made more key passes than Pablo Sarabia (14) in Europe's top five leagues in October. Of those 14 key passes, four resulted in an assist for his PSG teammates, more than any other player last month, as Sarbia garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.22. 

 

7. Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad) - 8.28 rating

 

The sole LaLiga player to feature in these rankings, Mikel Oyarzabal enjoyed a prolific October as he scored in every league appearance for La Real, netting in wins over Getafe, Real Betis and Huesca, while also notching assists in the former two clashes. Oyarzabal was one of 15 players to win multiple WhoScored man of the match awards as he landed an average rating of 8.28 in October. 

 

6. Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) - 8.35 rating

 

Borussia Dortmund's second player in this list narrowly misses out on a spot in the top five. Erling Haaland had a direct hand in a goal in every Bundesliga appearance in October, totalling three goals and two assists. 10 shots and five key passes contributed towards the Norwegian star's WhoScored rating of 8.35 last month.

5. Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo) - 8.36 rating

 

Moving over to Italy now, Domenico Berardi, like Haaland, had a direct hand in a goal in every league appearance in October. The Italian scored two and assisted two across meetings with Crotone, Bologna and Torino, winning the WhoScored man of the match award in wins over Crotone and Bologna. In all, Berardi managed nine shots and eight key passes as he yielded a WhoScored rating of 8.36. 

 

4. Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.37 rating

 

Pipping into fourth ahead of Berardi with a WhoScored rating of 8.37 is Tottenham star Son Heung-Min, whose score was the second best in the Premier League in October. The South Korean sensation had a direct hand in six goals last month, scoring with four of six shots and providing two assists. 

 

3. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 8.96 rating

 

The highest rated Ligue 1 representative is Kylian Mbappe, with a WhoScored rating of 8.96. Only Lionel Messi (24) completed more dribbles than Mbappe (15) in October across Europe's top five leagues as the PSG star had a direct hand in eight goals last month, scoring six times. 

 

2. Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 9.02 rating

 

The Premier League player of the month with a WhoScored rating of 9.02. Harry Kane earned the man of the match award in meetings with Manchester United and West Ham and, in total, had a direct hand in seven league goals, scoring four. All three assists were for Son Heung-Min to score as the pair maintained their fine partnership. 

 

1. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 9.70 rating

 

With a stunning WhoScored rating of 9.70, Robert Lewandowski is the European player of the month. The Bayern hitman scored two hat-tricks in October, those coming in wins over Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt. Lewandowski also netted twice and provided an assist in a comfortable victory over Arminia Bielefeld as he had a direct hand in 10 goals in total. The 32-year-old also won more WhoScored man of the match awards (3) than any other player to help top this leaderboard.
